Chess Sins

The Seven Deadly Chess Sins (2000, 2001) by Jonathan Rowson

"Scotland's youngest grandmaster discusses the most common causes of disaster in chess."

The author achieved grandmaster within months of graduating from Oxford.

According to the author, the seven sins are:

Erroneous thinking (the author admits that this one covers a lot of ground)
Missing opportunities
Too much concern with the result of the game
Lack of attention to non-material factors
Insufficient awareness of the opponent's ideas
Trying too hard and time-wasting thoughts
Poor concentration

The author uses numerous annotated games to illustrate his points.

The author includes a lot of quotes from chess, philosophy, and theology.

Excellent book, well worth reading, more than once.

If you have this book, bring it with you to Michigan.

I will take it to Michigan on the next trip.

With those big built-in bookcases, we should be able to have a nice little chess library.

Do chess books go on the left or right?
