Bear kills boy

An 11-year-old boy was dragged screaming from his family's tent and killed by a black bear during a Father's Day outing in the Utah wilderness.

Not a good idea to go into bear country unarmed. The chances are small, but the consequences are large.

I went hiking in Alaska one time, and saw several bears, although from a far distance. When I told a local guy sitting nect to me at the bar afterward, he asked me if I had a gun with me on the hike.

When I said no, he looked very disgusted, shaking his head, like I was another stupid tourist.

He said locals never go hiking unarmed. Never.

Now I wouldn't think Utah would be the same situation.
