Is a waterdog a fish?

An amphibian?

What.

A water dog is the larval stage of a salamander.

The water dog has gills and lives in the water.

At some stage, the water dog morphs into the adult salamander, which breathes air and lives on land, but is an amphibian.

The paint stick used for scale in this picture is 14 inches long, so this is a pretty hefty water dog.
