More taxes?

"I think we have to start thinking about a war on terrorism tax."

- Joe Lieberman

Personally, I would prefer that he cut spending on other programs.

How about instead letting the individual or corporate taxpayer designate what category their tax amount is to be spent on?

Have a row of government spending categories, and let each taxpayer allocate a percentage to each one, so it totals 100%.

If so, we would have plenty of funding for the military, the CIA, Homeland Security. Way more than we need, I bet.

But a whole lot of other programs would come up short. Maybe because they should be cut back or cut out.

Why don't we give those that do the paying more of a say in how it is spent?

Many of us taxpayers would agree to pay more dollars in taxes if we could designate how it was spent. The problem now is that we are certain most of our money is being spent in ways harmful to our own interests, the welfare of our families, and the best interests of the country.

I like the idea of designating where my taxes go.

I want mine to go to national defense.

Me too.

Somehow I think the defense budget would be fully funded, if the people that paid the bill got the right to choose the bills to pay.

How about we start with a 50/50 deal. We get to designate 50%, and Congress can allocate the rest.

I still think defense would be fully funded out of the first 50%.
