No dominion

No dominion (2006) by Charlie Huston

The title is derived from a line of poetry by Dylan Thomas: "And death shall have no dominion." (quoted in the novel on page 186)

This novel is the second in a series, and I did not read the first one.

It is a hybrid hard-boiled detective/vampire horror story with Joe Pitt as the vampire PI.

In this setting, vampirism is caused by a virus. And Joe's girlfriend has HIV. And the plot involves a street drug consisting of infected blood. Mix all that with the blood drinking and blood spilling, blood is a prominent feature of the novel.

Very violent. Graphically violent. At one point, Joe bites the eyeball out of one of his opponents.

Interesting novel, worth reading once, but probably not more than that.
