As Congress investigates the politicization of the United States attorney offices by the Bush administration, it should review the extraordinary events the other day in a federal courtroom in Wisconsin. The case involved Georgia Thompson, a state employee sent to prison on the flimsiest of corruption charges just as her boss, a Democrat, was fighting off a Republican challenger.
- NY Times
Since I live in Wisconsin, I am very familiar with this case, and it has been grossly misrepresented by the NY Times.
There was no "flimsiest" involved.
How many other stories, where I am not familiar with the details from independent sources, does the NY Times slant so egregiously that one would not even recognize them if one did know the details?
The NY Times is a menace.

So what's the real story then? You can't just say that the NYT's is full of crap without explaining what the real story is, can you? Just because you're from Wisconsin doesn't mean that the NYT's is wrong. And just because the NYT's has displayed a liberal bias in the past or even gotten things wrong before (a la Jason Blair) doesn't mean that this article is wrong. A lot of media outlets are looking into this case, and a lot of people are reporting that it stinks.
You're from Wisconsin, so tell us the truth: why did the courts vacate this conviction and complain that the prosecution had ZERO case?
For those of us who are aware of the facts in the case, Georgia Thompson was convicted for awarding a contract in return for a campaign contribution.
She was found guilty by a jury, not by a prosecutor.
She was sentenced by a judge, not by a prosecutor.
As for the motives of the appeals court, ask them.
The judge and jury in the original case obviously thought the prosecution had more than zero case.
The state government (run by a liberal Democrat governor) re-evaluated the bids and awarded the contract to the actual lowest bidder, rather then the bidder who made the campaign contribution.
How does that translate to zero case?
