Armed guards

A heavily armed man who killed four young people at a missionary training center and a church Sunday apparently intended to gun down many more victims before he was shot by a church security guard, authorities said Monday.

This is why we need armed guards at churches.

The first guard that the gunman confronted (yes, I have the wording right on that) was too afraid to do anything and he hid. A church member, a Vietnam Vet, ran to the guard, and asked for his pistol - which the terrified guard refused to give him. The Vet then confronted the shooter unarmed, and was shot (not seriously hurt) and then he saw a woman guard, walking right at the shooter, yelling surrender, surrender, and when the shooter pointed his rifle at her she emptied her pistol at him. She was a volunteer, and former cop, but had never shot anyone before.

She had a pistol and no armor against an attacking man with a high powered rifle and body armor.

Yes, we do need armed security - but we need bravery, not pretend security.

The brave woman saved many many lives (the shooter had hundreds of rounds of ammo, and the church had hundreds of people inside)

All police officers, and "guards" need to take some personal time to reflect on the question, "Will I hide when my time is called, or will I protect and serve with bravery and honor?"

Hopefully, we will see a wave of resignations as the truthful admit to their pretense.

We need more sheepdogs who will confront the wolves. The wolves will never rest for long or go away completely.

The first guard who hid will probably sue the church for putting him in a position where he had to do more than pretend to be a security guard.
