The Templar Legacy (2006) by Steve Berry
This novel features the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, also known as the Templars. The Knights Templar were destroyed by a corrupt king and pope in the 1300s.
The protagonist is Cotton Malone, former agent for the U.S. Justice Department, who is dragged into a modern conflict involving remnants of the Templars.
The narrative alternates back and forth between modern times and the 1300s.
The action centers around a search for the lost treasure of the Templars, which turns out to be the bones of Jesus Christ and the last testament of Simon Peter.
Anne Rice's Memnoch was probably the last book I read that was as blasphemous as this book.
Interesting book, but I cannot recommend it to devout Christians who are easily offended by heresy.
