[Presidential candidate John Edwards is embracing a position that has been political suicide in the past - admitting he would raise taxes.
His idea immediately opened him to criticism that he's a tax-and-spender in the mold of Walter Mondale, the 1984 Democratic presidential nominee who said he would raise taxes. Well of course Edwards would raise taxes. Raising taxes is always the Democratic answer to any problem. They never met a tax they didn't like.
